Sociology of Contemporary Societies (SCS)

A copy of a diploma to show at least completed Bachelor’s studies or confirmation that ongoing Bachelor’s studies will be completed in the current academic year. Confirmation of studies may be substituted with a transcript of records, provided that these are from the same academic year as the application.

Don’t have your diploma yet?

Submit a confirmation from your school detailing your current studies, expected graduation date and anticipated results. You will have the option to submit your actual diploma later during the registration for the first year in September. Download our standard form for guidelines – your school can use it as a template.

Nostrification

If you already have a Certificate of General recognition of the foreign diploma in Czechia (“nostrification document”), you can submit it instead of the actual diploma. Otherwise, the nostrification process will be done by the International Office during your enrollment meeting, in case you are accepted. For the application process, we only need scans of your documents and you do not need to mail us your documents yet.

Do you have multiple degrees?

The application form itself only allows you to fill in one degree – please choose the one that is a level below your desired education. Then add all your degrees and transcripts to the attachments – you can upload multiple documents in each category. Don’t forget to also mention all your degrees in the CV!

The transcripts from all years of the previous university study should be submitted.

Transcript of records from previous studies is a document describing the content and scope of your completed education including grades (it can be a diploma supplement, final exam grades, predicted grades, or similar).

Transcripts from unfinished studies (e.g.: You have studied 2 semesters of a Master’s study, but haven’t finished) can be included as well to show the full scope of your experience. We recommend adding those as well; they can definitely strengthen your application!

Structured CV should include your previous work experience, extracurricular activities, internships, volunteering, awards or other relevant achievements and skills, if applicable.

There is no specific template or length required, but the document must be in English.

The motivation letter should include information about previous education, the title or topic of the Bachelor’s thesis, information about previous experience in sociology or social anthropology, reasons for choosing this particular study program and expectations of what it should bring to your future life trajectory. In the motivation letter, you should address your specialization preferences, especially whether you are interested in the Double Degree in Sociology of Contemporary Societies specialization. The recommended length of the motivation letter is approximately 2 000 characters, including spaces.

You should provide a certificate from one of the following standardized tests:

• IELTS Academic – the minimum required overall band score of 6.5, with a band score of 6.0 or above in all four components;
• TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT) & TOEFL iBT Home Edition – the minimum required overall score of 83, with a minimum score of 20 in the four sections;
• Cambridge B2 First (former FCE) – minimum Cambridge English Scale Score of 175;
• Cambridge C1 Advanced (former CAE) or C2 Proficiency (former CPE) receiving a certificate;
• PTE Academic test – the minimum required score above 56;
• LanguageCert ESOL – Communicator with High Pass, Expert or Mastery;
• Duolingo English Test (DET) – the minimum required overall score of 120, with a subscore of 105 or above in all four components.

A standardized English test is not required if you:

• have studied in English at the secondary school level for at least two years;
• have studied in English at the university level for at least one year in a full degree program (this does NOT include study stays such as Erasmus or a preparatory year of study).

When a score from an English-language test is not presented, you should provide a confirmation of your use of English during your prior studies to support your claim. The confirmation should contain the information that the study program was conducted in English as a language of study. A diploma supplement or transcript containing this information can also be accepted.
