General Study
- Can I apply for spring/February intake?
FSV UK only offers fall intake, i.e. all our students start their study from the beginning of October. It is not possible to enrol in the middle of the academic year.
- Is it possible to transfer to your program?
Yes, we are happy to accept students who want to transfer to FSV UK. To transfer you have to submit a regular application to the program’s first year. Should you be admitted, you can then have your courses and credits transferred and recognized (those that correspond in content and scope with the study plan of your new program). You can then graduate as soon as you fulfill all study obligations (even in one year). Follow our guide.
- My previous education was not in the field I want to pursue. Can I still apply?
Definitely! Our programs accept students from all different kinds of backgrounds; as long as you have your finished Bachelor’s degree for Master’s application or finished your secondary education for a Bachelor’s application, you are definitely eligible to apply.
Any courses taken in a relevant field are of course an advantage, but the evaluation committees assess other different aspects of your student’s profile as well.- I am a visa-seeking student, but I missed the early-bird and regular deadline. Can I still apply for the extended deadlines?
- If the application portal is still open, anyone regardless of their country of origin can submit an application. However, we strongly recommend that applicants that need a visa to study in Czechia consider the visa process and decide their next steps accordingly, as the beginning of the semester is always on October 1st, which leaves very little time to obtain a visa. The official time period for issuing a visa decision is 60 days, but there are many other steps to the visa process that take time. You can check our visa guide for details and time estimates.
- I have ________ degree, am I eligible to apply?
The general requirement is that you need to have a finished Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, which gives access to the Master’s level programs in the country of that accredited university, if you want to apply for our Master’s programs.
For admissions to our Bachelor’s programs, you need to have a finished secondary/high school education from an accredited secondary/high school, which gives access to the Bachelor’s level education in the country of your secondary school.
These are the basic eligibility requirements – most programs require more documents to be attached to the application. You can always find the full list on the program’s website.
- Do you accept GED?
Yes, we can accept GED with score of 165 and above as an alternative for a US high school diploma.
- I am ________ years old. Can I apply?
Of course! There are no age limits set either way. The important factor for us is that you have finished your previous education: secondary school for Bachelor’s applications and Bachelor’s level education for the Master’s applications. Your age or a gap between your last study and the present does not matter to us. Quite the opposite: our academic community benefits from the diversity and experience our students bring.
Underaged students do not need their parents signature for enrollment or any part of the study administration, but please be aware that a legal guardian’s presence might be necessary for some of the other non-academic aspects of life in Prague, such as opening a bank account.
Applications
- How many programs can I apply for?
You can apply for as many programs as you want, but you need to submit a separate application and pay the application fee for each. Be careful when uploading the attachments in order not to mix them up.
- I want to change information in my already submitted application (name, email, address, etc.)
Please contact us at admissions@fsv.cuni.cz and we will make the edit for you. Do not start a new application for the same program – duplicate applications will not be accepted.
- I accidentally submitted the wrong document and my application is already sent
Please contact us at admissions@fsv.cuni.cz and send us the correct document; we will make the change in your application.
- I accidentally uploaded the document in the wrong category (e.g., my transcript is in the “CV” section)
This is not a problem; the committee receives the documents in one folder, so they will not pay attention to the category names. These are mainly indicative for the applicants, in order not to forget anything.
- I am registered for an exam (English, SAT, etc.), but my results will arrive after the deadline
Upload a statement/confirmation of registration for the exam instead, including the date when you expect to have the results. The committee will put your application on pause. As soon as you receive the results, please send them to admissions@fsv.cuni.cz and the committee will then evaluate you.
- I don’t have my diploma yet / I’m still finishing my previous study
Submit a confirmation from your school detailing your current studies, expected graduation date and anticipated results. You will have the option to submit your actual diploma later during the registration for the first year in September. Download our standard form for guidelines – your school can use it as a template
- I have multiple degrees, which one do I put in the online form?
The application form itself only allows you to fill in one degree – please choose the one that is a level below your desired education (e.g., if you are applying for a Master’s program and already have another Master’s degree, use your Bachelor’s degree here). Then add all your degrees and transcripts to the attachments – you can upload multiple documents in each category. Do not forget to also mention all your degrees in the CV!
- I have an unfinished study at a different university, should I include the transcript?
Transcripts from unfinished studies (e.g., you have studied 3 semesters of a Bachelor’s study, but have not finished) can be included as well to show the full scope of your experience. We recommend adding those to your application as well; they can definitely strengthen your application!
- Is there a specific template or length requirement for the CV and recommendation letters?
There is no specific template or length required, but the document must be in English.
- I saw that the regular/extended deadline is not recommended for visa-seeking students. Can I still apply?
The applications are open to everyone regardless of their country of origin; however, we recommend that applicants from a visa seeking country consider the visa process and decide their next steps accordingly, as the beginning of the semester is at the start of October, which does not leave a lot of time to obtain the visa.
Application fees
- I cannot afford the application fee
Unfortunately, there is no possibility of an application fee waiver. The fee must be paid by the deadline; unpaid applications will not be evaluated.
- I have paid the application fee, but the system still shows it as unpaid
It is quite common for the application fee to take 2-3 days to be processed by the system, especially if coming from a foreign bank. Please wait a few days and if the system still doesn’t register it, contact us at admissions@fsv.cuni.cz with the confirmation of payment.
Results
- When will I learn the results?
All applications regardless of the date of submission are evaluated after the application deadline. You should receive an email with the results approximately 3-4 weeks after the deadline.
- I got rejected from my program of choice. Can I apply again in the next admissions round?
No, you cannot apply for the same program twice in one academic year. You can apply for a different program, or wait and apply in the next academic year.
- My SIS results say “Conditional acceptance,” what does this mean?
- You don’t have to worry – you have definitely been accepted for the program. This is a formal status in the system and it’s the case for all our newly accepted students, because we still have to perform the assessment of your documents before the semester starts. This process will be done during the registration for your first year in September, when you come to our office in person.
Scholarships
- Are there any scholarship opportunities for international students from my country?
Our scholarships are available for everyone regardless of their country of origin. We offer tuition fee reductions based on excellent results, or partial financial support for students struggling with difficult circumstances. Please note that the Faculty does not offer full scholarships.
Visa
- Can you help me with the visa process?
No, the visa is a responsibility of each individual student. We have created a detailed guide that should help you navigate through the process. We will also send you the documents necessary for the application. If your country participates in the Student mode, we can register you for an earlier embassy appointment. Apart from that, we unfortunately cannot help further.
- When will you send me my visa documents?
After you are accepted, we will send you an invoice for the first semester tuition (half of the annual tuition fee). Once your payment arrives to our accounts, we will prepare the letter of acceptance and dormitory contract and we will send it to you via DHL. We can provide an electronic letter of acceptance in case you need it to secure the embassy appointment.
