Master in Area Studies (MAS)

This program focuses on modern history and current developments in Europe, Eurasia, and North America. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, it covers a broad range of topics—from politics, security, and international relations to economic, social, and cultural developments, including legal and environmental issues. You can compile your own curriculum based on personal interests and career goals: either build an individualized thematic and territorial profile or choose from regionally oriented study tracks. You will be well-prepared for careers in national, regional and European administration and governance, international organizations, NGOs and think tanks, academia and research, media, or business.

early-bird: 28 February 2026

regular: 30 April 2026

Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia and the visa process can be quite lengthy. We therefore strongly recommend the early-bird deadline.

MAS provides a multi-disciplinary training in the study of international affairs. You will be able to analyze individual topics arising within the region of your interest from an interdisciplinary point of view in terms of modern history and social sciences (political science, international relations, sociology, economics, etc.). You will understand current issues in their historical, societal, political, and economic context. Mastering several foreign languages, you will be capable of reflecting local debate and local perspectives on international and transnational issues, and delivering qualified comments on the developments of states and societies of the studied regions.

The program is very flexible. To build your thematic and territorial profile according to your individual interests and future career plans, you can either create your own curriculum or choose one of the predefined study tracks: The US and Global Affairs, Transition and Integration in Europe, or Israel and the Middle East
