How to write the best motivation letter
Regardless of whether you want to study a Bachelor or a Master program, the committees consider many different factors and your motivation for study is an essential part of their evaluation, often as important as your grades.
The motivation letter is your opportunity to address the committee directly, to explain the reasons for your choice of the program and to complete your student profile with information that the numbers, grades and bullet points in the other uploaded documents don’t show.
We do not have a set template for the motivation letters, and the form is mostly free, but we have compiled a few tips to consider when writing your motivation letter to help you on your journey to submitting your application.
- Always check the program’s website for any specific requirements. These tips are general, and your program may have more detailed instructions or prompts for you, which should take precedence.
- Be authentic. AI may write a formally stunning motivation letter and hit all the expected buzzwords, but we want to hear your voice. The motivation letter should reflect you as a person, your mindset and personality.
- Explain your choice. Why did you choose this field of study? What drew you to FSV UK and this specific program? Why do you feel we are the right fit for you – and you for us?
- Are you changing your field of study? This is your chance to tell us why! Our programs accept students from all different backgrounds, but if you are switching field or transferring, make sure to explain your journey.
- Show us the context. Your other documents will give us your academic background and list your extracurriculars and experience. The motivation letter should help us set them in the context of your life. What shaped you? What are you passionate about? Who do you hope to become in the future and how can our program help you achieve that?
We are excited to read your letter and get to know you better as a person, applicant and a potential new addition to our academic community!
