How to apply

Applications

The admission process for our PhD programs is through an online application. You will find the list of required documents in the online application and also on the page of each individual study program. Please check the admission requirements carefully as different programs can have different requirements. All documents need to be translated to English or Czech. Only complete application will be considered. If you want to add other non-mandatory documents that you feel will strengthen your application, you can upload them in the “other” field of the application.

You can apply to as many programs as you want, but you must submit a separate application for each. However, it is not possible to apply to both full-time and combined form of study of the same study program. Please choose the form of study, which you prefer. If you apply to the full-time form of study and your score is not sufficient for admission to the full-time form but is sufficient for admission to the combined form, you will be offered a possibility to study in the combined form.

In case you want to make changes to an already submitted application, please email your admission officer – do NOT start another application for the same program! Duplicite applications cannot be accepted.

Personal data will be used exclusively for organizing the admission process and program enrolments.

Application fee

The application fee for PhD programs is currently 900 CZK (approximately 37 EUR).

The fee has to be paid by the application deadline you are aiming for. We cannot process the applications that are not paid in time. The application fee must be paid in full either by card or via bank transfer. No cash payments are possible. You will find the payment instructions at the end of your online application form.

Request for the entrance exam taken remotely

The request for the entrance examination taken remotely has to be submitted at least 10 working days before the exam date through the Student Information System (SIS). You can do this when you log in your application.

Please follow these instructions and don’t forget to fill in, sign and upload this form together with other possible supplements as an attachment to the electronic request.

How much is the tuition fee?
The tuition fee for our PhD programs taught in English (both the full-time and the combined form of study): 500 EUR/academic year – Economics and Finance, Political Science, International Relations, Media and Communication Studies 2000 EUR/academic year – Digital Social Science 0 EUR – Modern History, Area Studies, Sociology, Public and Social Policy There is no tuition fee for the PhD study programs taught in the Czech language.: Will I be entitled to a stipend?
All students enrolled in a full-time PhD program are entitled to a regular monthly stipend during the standard length of study (ie. during the first four years of their study). In the school year 2026/27 this stipend amounts to CZK 26 880. If a student does not fulfil study requirements properly, a stipend can be reduced by 50 %.: Can I apply for doctoral study even though I did not finish my Master’s degree studies yet?
Yes, it is possible. However, you should be aware that a Master’s degree diploma must be submitted before the enrollment in the study.: Do I need to find a supervisor before I apply?
Having a consent of a potential supervisor is not a condition of admission. However, it is strongly recommended that applicants consult their topics in advance either with an intended supervisor or with a director of the study program to see if their dissertation topic is in line with the respective department research focus.: How can I find a supervisor?
You can look at the List of Supervisors, where you can find the titles of dissertation projects each supervisor is/was supervising, and also supervisors’ email addresses so that you can contact them directly. You can also contact the respective Admissions Officer, who will put you in touch with the responsible person at the particular department.: By when do I have to submit documents proving my previous education obtained abroad?
If you obtained your Master’s degree abroad, it is necessary to have your education recognized in the Czech Republic. However, you need not submit any documents confirming your previous education before you know you were accepted. After the entrance examination, all the accepted applicants who obtained their Master’s degree abroad are contacted by us by e-mail and they are informed which documents have to be submitted and by when. In any case, the process of recognition has to be finished BEFORE the enrollment. No applicant can be enrolled without submitting the necessary documents.: Can you arrange an accommodation for me?
We can arrange accommodation in a university dormitory for you. Students are typically housed in double-occupancy rooms with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities but there is also a limited number of single rooms. Accommodation is assigned by the Accommodation Office according to the principle “first-come, first-served.” Unfortunately, you cannot choose which dormitory you will be housed in, but we can guarantee that all our accommodation facilities are well accessible by local transportation. Please note that the accommodation contract is one of the mandatory attachments to the application for study visa in the Czech Republic. Therefore we recommend this type of accommodation especially for successful applicants from visa-seeking countries. If accommodation in a dormitory is not what you are looking for, you are free to book an accommodation of your choice by yourself. Prague is a vibrant city with many accommodation options available.
