There are four specializations: Peace and Conflict Studies, Strategic and War Studies, Global and Regional Security, Security and Technology. You will be ready for a career in international institutions, administration and foreign services, NGOs, media, and academia. The program offers a double-degree option with the University of Konstanz.

early-bird: 28 February 2026

regular: 30 April 2026

Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia and the visa process can be quite lengthy. We therefore strongly recommend the early-bird deadline.

After the end of the Cold War, security studies underwent a significant transformation and began to move beyond purely military questions to include themes such as environment, human security, ethnic conflicts, irregular conflict, radicalization, natural resources and energy. MISS offers a complex guide through the current multifaceted shape of the field of security studies in the context of international relations. You can choose from four specializations: Peace and Conflict Studies, Strategic and War Studies, Global and Regional Security, and Security and Technology.

MISS offers two double-degree options: with the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and with the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University, Australia. You can be selected, based on merit, after the first semester. Graduates will obtain MA degrees from two universities.

The program promotes a progressive approach to teaching which includes reducing class sizes and an emphasis on interactive seminars. Classes are conducted through presentations, discussions or simulations incorporating students, rather than through a one-sided monologue of facts. The main goal of this is to streamline the teaching process through actively involving you in class and making it possible for you to present your opinions on and understandings of the material.
